Ferrets

We love our ferrets here at Pet Dental Clinic and know they need dental care too.  We are excited to welcome ferrets to our practice!  Dr. Cowgill is available to see your ferret for their preventive care and dental needs.

When you schedule your ferret's Same-Day Dental Cleaning & Diagnostic Appointment, you will be able to meet with the veterinarian and staff. Your ferret will be examined for any health concerns, and we will perform full bloodwork at the beginning of this appointment to ensure your ferret is in good health to undergo anesthesia for his or her dental cleaning. If there are no concerns, your ferret will stay with us for approximately 6 hours to complete the dental cleaning and diagnostic portion of the exam. Your ferret will be anesthetized, full anesthetic monitoring will be performed, and IV fluids will be administered to ensure adequate hydration and blood flow to organs.  His or her teeth will be cleaned, polished, and dental x-rays will be obtained. UP TO 1 HOUR OF EXTRACTIONS OF SEVERELY DISEASED TEETH CAN BE PERFORMED AT THIS VISIT AT ADDITIONAL COST (up to an additional $450).

YOUR FERRET MUST BE CURRENT ON THEIR RABIES VACCINE IN ORDER TO SCHEDULE A DENTAL APPOINTMENT. It is highly recommended that they also be current on their Ferret Distemper vaccine.  Please call us if your ferret will need a vaccine booster prior to their dental cleaning appointment.

Ferrets do not require fasting prior to anesthesia.  PLEASE DO NOT FAST YOUR FERRET PRIOR TO THEIR APPOINTMENT.  They may continue to eat and drink as normal.

Ferret vaccinations: Please call if you'd like to schedule a ferret vaccine appointment.

Vaccines available for ferrets are Rabies and Distemper. Ferrets can only be given one vaccine at a time, so you will need to schedule two appointments, 2 weeks apart to get your ferret caught up on both vaccines. We will pre-medicate your ferret with Benadryl prior to administering vaccines and we will monitor them for 30 minutes after vaccination. Vaccines are $30 each. Benadryl and monitoring are included in your vaccination fee.  A ferret vaccine appointment is $105 total.
