Heartworm Disease Prevention

Heartworm disease image

Dogs and cats are both susceptible to Heartworm disease.  Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal disease that is contracted from mosquitoes.  When an infected mosquito bites an animal, larvae are deposited into the bite after which they migrate and mature into adult worms that live in the animal’s heart and pulmonary arteries.  Heartworm disease treatment is dangerous for the animal and costly to the owner.  Additionally, there is no approved treatment for heartworm disease in cats.  Luckily there are many heartworm prevention products available and we can help you determine which product is best for your pet.

It is essential that we know whether or not your pet has already been infected with heartworm disease prior to administering heartworm prevention products, so we offer annual heartworm disease testing as part of our routine bloodwork for dogs.  We carry heartworm prevention products and can supply this at your pet’s visit if you would like.
